Attention school districts:
1. The school district must notify the grant project manager once the school district chooses a SMAQMD-approved salvage yard/dismantler. The grant project manager will send the school district a Salvage Yard Instruction Letter for each bus that will be destroyed. The Salvage Yard Instruction Letter must accompany the old bus and the signed DMV Title to the salvage yard.
2. The school district must submit a copy of both sides of the DMV Title for the old bus to the grant project manager before the old bus is sent to the salvage yard. The DMV Title for the old bus must be signed by the school district and the name of the SMAQMD-approved salvage yard/dismantler must be written on the DMV Title in the appropriate area.
3. It is the school district’s responsibility to deliver the old bus to the SMAQMD-approved salvage yard/dismantler; however, some SMAQMD-approved salvage yard/dismantler will tow the old bus from the school district’s facility to the salvage yard at no cost to the school district.
4. The SMAQMD-approved salvage yard/dismantler will destroy the old bus, file the DMV non-revivable title (permanent junked title), and submit proof to the SMAQMD inspection staff.
5. The school district will not be charged by the SMAQMD-approved salvage yard/dismantler to destroy the old bus.
6. The school district will not receive monetary funds from the SMAQMD-approved salvage yard/dismantler for surrendering the old bus to the salvage yard.
