For Most Complaints - Call (916) 874-4800 or (800) 880-9025

In general, the quickest way to submit air quality complaints to the AQMD is to call (916) 874-4800 or (800) 880-9025 during regular business hours. The 800 number is toll free within the Sacramento County. If you call outside of business hours, you may leave a recorded message. The AQMD will log your complaint, assign it to an inspector, and initiate an investigation within 24 hours of receipt your information.

When you call, please have the following information ready.

  • A specific description of the problem. Is it an odor, smoke, or dust?
  • The location of the problem including address and cross streets, if known.
  • If known, who is causing the problem?
  • The time the problem occurs, including time of day and frequency.

Specific and accurate information can significantly speed the AQMD's investigation of your complaint.

Alternatively, you may use the Web form to e-mail your complaint to the AQMD. The information submitted will be processed during regular business hours.
