Similar to Community Air Monitoring, AB 617 requires CARB, with input from air districts, to select communities in which to develop and adopt community emission reduction programs. Community reduction programs will outline new strategies, implementation schedules and enforcement activities to reduce emissions and exposure of impacted communities as determined by the new monitoring activities described above. Air districts with selected communities are required to develop and implement community emissions reduction programs. The first year implementation priority communities will be selected by October 1, 2018 and emission reduction programs are required to be developed and submitted to CARB by October 1, 2019. Sac Metro Air District is currently performing its assessment to determine whether any communities in Sacramento County will be recommended for emissions reduction programs. Any communities considered will be a part of the Air District’s initial and/or final community recommendations to CARB.
