Agricultural Operations Permitting Calculator

Quick Check
To determine if your agricultural operation requires an air permit, you may perform a "Quick Check" by answering the following questions.  This "Quick Check" is based on assumptions (e.g., crop water usage factors, well depths, emission factors, and equipment usage) that may not be accurate for all farms.  To determine whether or not permits are required with more certainty, (a) emissions should be calculated and compared with the AQMD's permitting thresholds (see the Title V calculation form (PDF 34 Kb)) , or (b) emissions should be calculated using the AQMD's automated calculator.

QUICK CHECK: If you answer "yes" to any of the questions below, continue to "Automated Calculator" for a more accurate analysis.

1. Farming operation with 350 or more contiguous acreage irrigated using internal combustion engines,
2. Dairy or feedlot operations with 1,954 or more cattle, or
3. Broiler, laying hen, or turkey ranch with 130,211 or more birds

Otherwise, you do NOT need an air permit.

Automated Calculator
We must calculate the emissions from your agricultural operation to determine if you will need to obtain a permit. A permit will be required if the calculated NOx and VOC emissions from your agricultural operation is equal to or greater than 12.5 tons/year.

In order to determine this, please answer the following six questions.
